What is going on everyone!! Sheesh it feels like it has been so long since my last article, and to be honest it really has. For that I do apologize. Adjusting to the new semester and work is tough, but here we go!!
I have been thinking about why change is so difficult. Like, we hear it a lot that if we are going to progress, change needs to happen. Adjustment is necessary if change and progression is going to occur. It is so interesting that we get so comfortable inside our little boxes, but I am convinced that the supernatural happens in the midst of change. Dare to step out of your box. That is a challenge for me as well because I tend to stick with what is comfortable. This applies to all facets of life, not just faith.
Let’s zone in on the aspect of faith. As believers, it is so easy to gravitate to what we understand and what is familiar to us, and nothing is wrong with that, but it can become harmful if we don’t seek out the “different perspective”. Sometimes, other people who are different have insight that we couldn’t get on our own. I guess the heart behind this is that I want us all to become a little uncomfortable for us to grow.
What has inspired me is this series of videos on Youtube called Middle Ground. It is where people on two totally different sides of the social spectrum come together to have a dialogue about their experiences. It goes from pastors and sex workers, to Israelis and Palestinians. These were so addicting for me because at the root, people just want to be understood, no matter what they believe. Personally speaking, it is very difficult to put aside my agenda to focus on trying to understand a perspective that is different from mine. But that is what selflessness is, right?
I challenge us all to get uncomfortable. Talk to someone that is different from you. Genuinely dig into their lives and find a need to meet. It doesn’t always have to be a “Christian” conversation, or even a gospel sharing agenda. Just try to learn where someone is coming from and grow from that experience.
