“So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:15-20‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Some people may not want to say it, but the saints be drinking. I know that’s not the best grammar, but you get the point. I personally don’t believe it’s a sin to drink, but I believe it is a sin to get drunk. To over indulge too much into anything gets you over into the sin of greed. You’re constantly consuming something to the point where it alters your judgment and even begins to dictate the decisions you make in your life.

God did not give us these good brains to have them damaged by ingesting or injecting this into our bodies that hinder us from living lives that bring God glory. The lie or deception behind drugs and alcohol is that you are somehow ascending to a higher level of consciousness. In reality, you are lowering yourself for the sake of a quick high.

I always thought it was interesting that Paul combines the getting drunk with wine with being filled with Holy Spirit. When you think about it it really shows in comparison how similar the two are, but also how they have drastically different results. To get drunk you have to take several drinks of liquor. After so many drinks your judgement is altered. Your actions are different. Now what you have put in you is controlling you.

The Holy Spirit is the same way. We get saved and ask to receive the Holy Spirit. We take shots of the Holy Ghost when we pray, read scripture, worship, hear the preached word or allow the Spirit to guide us in working or ministry or daily decisions. The more we take in of Him the more He controls how we act in our lives.

“Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’””
‭‭John‬ ‭7:38‬ ‭NLT‬‬

What happened with Adam and Eve is that they were deceived into taking something in that would cause them to ascend. Instead, it really lowered them. It took them to the lowest of low points. In put mankind in sin and separated us from God. Thank God for grace, because where sin abounds grace much more abounds. God loved us so much that He already had the plan of redemption set before man ever fell from grace. Now we can accept Christ and take in the living water of His Holy Spirit to never thirst again.
