One of today’s biggest CHH artist has released something new this past week! Json, Lamp Mode recording artist and Saint Louis rapper is starting off with what looks like to be a series of EP’s entitled Foreign Vol. 1. Json has for many years been one of the better concept artists in today’s hip hop culture. What I mean by that is he will take a single subject or idea and thoroughly dissect it through a 13-20 track list of quality bangers. Some prime examples are his Growing Pains album and No Filter album. In Growing pains he discusses some transparent issues that he has gone through to be the man he is today, issues such as, marital problems, doubt, sexual abuse and more.
Getting into this new EP, we can see that he is taking a bit of different approach with this “Foreign” theme. This is the first EP Json has dropped on his 10+ years in music. It is also the first start of a series of potential EP’s we may see in the future. In the opening track we get the most explicit description of what he means by Foreign. It’s a firm declaration to do what God wants him to do and not the world. On the outside, the spirit will make him look and seem different, while his actions will back it up by showing he won’t conform to the world. Most of the tracks are centered around the early years of Json’s salvation and the mindset of being completely grateful to God from where he came.
Production wise there is really not too much quiet time with 6 out of the 8 tracks being just straight bangers and tracks to make your car rumble. It fits perfectly into the brand that Json has always brought to the table with every album. Nasty beats and aggressive flows both combined with thought out meaning behind every bar of every track. I’m really happy this album will potentially be part of a series of albums, because getting to the last song left me wanting more. Json has never disappointed me with his projects and I foresee this being his most ambitious set of albums to date.
