A Godly Response to the Orlando Shooting |@trackstarz @jasonbordeaux1

By now most have heard of the horrific shooting that occurred in Orlando, Florida on Sunday around 2am. I saw the news Sunday morning and was immediately saddened. I did not have all the information at the time; I just hoped these people were followers of Jesus and that I would meet them in eternity. After I looked into the situation more, I discovered that this was a gay club and that this attack was probably a hate crime by a member of ISIS. This is speculation but that doesn’t change what I am about to discuss when it comes to a Christian response.

The infamous Westboro Baptist Church was reported by some news outlets to have celebrated the shooting on twitter by saying things like “God still hates fags” and “God sent the shooter.” I hope and pray that was not the feelings of those who are reading this because that is not a godly response to a horrible shooting. Some may feel that God sent the shooter because these people were living in sin and might compare it to Sodom and Gomorrah. One thing you have to realize is there could have been some Christians in the club that night. Many may disagree on whether you can be a Christian and be gay but you cannot argue that all Christians fall even after giving our life to Christ. We should be even more sad for those who were not saved. Some are going to use this as a fear tactic to try and lead people to Christ. That only works about % .1 of the time. Instead lets pray for the families and hope that there are some Christians near these families who can help comfort and pray with them in this time of need.

For the Christians who are celebrating this event for whatever reason are acting in the likes of ISIS. They are killing those people in their hearts instead of in person. We have to check our hearts and motives. Everyone is made in God’s image. We do not always show it by our actions but He died for us all with the same act of love. He stood as an example of how to love our brothers and sisters in Christ as well as those who are not in the adopted family yet. This isn’t a time for spilt politics or divisions in the church. Lets all show sympathy for the families and pray for their comfort during this time. Remember we are the ambassadors of Christ. How we respond in these situations can be crucial to those who are looking for answers regarding Jesus or Christianity.
