The Ambassador’s “Thesis” album was a great album. I love the visual on the album cover. As he sits in his desk, preparing his thesis of Holiness and Holy Hip Hop for fans and non believers, he is dressed in his Timberlands, baggie jeans, white tee and Fitted hat (cocked to the side). This image alone speaks how the scriptures can shine through those from the suburbs as well as the streets. This is why his song “My Clothes, My Hair” is such a powerful song off of the album. At first listen, it wasn’t one of my favorite tracks. As I’ve stated before, I’m bar bias and the production and lyrics didn’t really move me as much. As I became an artist (I had locs at the time), I began ministering at churches (black and white). I began to see and experience those very lyrics from people of both races within the churches. I could value and respect the lyrics far more as time went on.
Overall, this is one of the best prophetic trailblazing videos within CHH. Ambassador created a “glancer enhancer” experience for the track. He allowed us to see the struggle many may have brushed off as a petty issue. He was able to speak on racism, classism and the simple question- if people had authentic love for one another. He tackles such a big problem in a peaceful way. We can easily say the influence of this song/video affected how Lecrae and many of us view “church clothes” now. This video is just as relevant now as it was in 2005. Thank you Ambassador for convincing and convicting us to have a Mirror Moment with ourselves to see if we are looking at people from their outward or inward appearance. Spread The Soup!
