“All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—”
This article is based on one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite hip hop super crews – The Tunnel Rats. This song features one of my all time favorite rap duos – L.P.G. Which is made up of Dax and Jurny Big. Even though this wasn’t my introduction to hip hop this song takes me back to a place of nostalgia. It reminds me of why I love this genre of music. I love music overall, but it just hits different when it’s a dope hip hop track with hot barz.
I think this song is fitting to end off the month of February. This month we celebrate Black history and love with Valentine’s Day. The correlation is to remember. Not just remember some events, but the love we had in the beginning. Not just the love for our significant other or, if you’re Black, our love for Black people or our historical figures. At the center of it all should be our love for Christ.
Not that we shouldn’t have affections for our culture or for the special people in our lives, but those connections should be rooted and grounded in Christ. Our love for God should be supreme overall and the affection of these other relationships should pour out of that. That our love for God should motivate us to love our neighbor and not allow the love for our neighbor to supersede our love for God.
When things get out of alignment it is important for us to remember where it all starts. We love God, but it doesn’t even start there. God loved us first and gave us access so that we could have a loving relationship with Him. Life can happen and cause us to ever so slightly drift away from our source, but it is His Spirit that serves as a reminder of who God is and who we are in Him. God calls us friends. Even better than that God calls us sons and daughters.
That leads us to our Throwback Theology Song of the Week. As I mentioned before that it comes from The Tunnel Rats and features L.P.G. They are the founders of The Tunnel Rats. The featured song is from their 2001 album, “Tunnel Vision.” The featured track is called “Remember.” Tune into Trackstarz to hear DJ Jeremaya spin this for the Throwback Theology Song of the Day. Until next time…
Peace and blessings,
