Written Review | Kemara Lynn | “Apply Pressure”

This week I had the esteemed pleasure of reviewing Kemara Lynn’s newest release, “Apply Pressure”. When I first pressed play on “Apply Pressure,” it immediately confirmed what I’ve been saying about Kemara Lynn since learning of her: I now know she is operating at the top of Detroit’s Christian rap scene, and her trajectory is only going up from here. A few weeks ago, during our “Independent Artist Spotlight” interview, she opened up about the origins of this song. She shared how she and her father were both battling illnesses, how she lost her job, and how a number of unexpected setbacks forced her into a season of pause. But instead of folding under the pressure, she chose to apply pressure—to push back spiritually, mentally, and artistically. That context makes this record hit even harder.

From the moment the beat drops, Kemara delivers with a confidence that’s impossible to ignore. Her flow is sharp, her tone is controlled, and she raps like someone who knows exactly why she’s here and what she’s fighting for. There’s a maturity in her delivery—a steady strength—that reflects the battles she’s faced. She’s absolutely someone I’m keeping a close eye on, and I stand by my belief that she is among the top emerging voices in Detroit’s Christian hip hop landscape.

DKG KIE brings his own fire to the track, delivering a verse packed with grit and intention. As a member of the Demon Killa Gang and an artist with an already impressive catalog, he complements Kemara’s energy perfectly. His presence adds weight and texture to the record without overshadowing her message. Together, they create a powerful statement about resilience, focus, and refusing to back down.

I also have to highlight the phenomenal music video that dropped the same day as the single. It visually captures the heart behind the song—strength in struggle, determination in adversity, and the moment you decide to rise instead of retreat. It’s the perfect companion piece to an already strong release.

“Apply Pressure” is a reminder that Christian hip hop is in an incredible season. Artists like Kemara Lynn and DKG KIE are pushing the culture forward with authenticity, vulnerability, and excellence. I like this record a lot, and knowing the story behind it gives it even greater depth. I’m excited to see what Kemara does next, because she’s clearly just getting started.
