I recently sat down with Craig Watson for another installment of the Independent Artist Spotlight, and I was mesmerized by his heart. He shared how he fully gave his life to the Lord at 17, and it’s clear he’s a young man making his mark in the Philadelphia Christian Hip-Hop scene.
Craig recently released his latest single, Call Right Back, a heartfelt tribute to the Father. The song reminds us that when we call out to Him, He hears us because of the deep connection we share. If you know anything about Craig Watson, you’ll quickly recognize his wit, charm, and tenacity. His personality is full of life, and he takes the art of music-making seriously. At such a young age, he’s a firecracker for the Lord, just waiting to be ignited and explode for the Kingdom!
When I first listened to Call Right Back, I immediately thought, Okay—Philly vibes, backpack rap—I get it! Craig delivers a quick verse followed by a smooth bridge to close out the song. The hook is catchy and vibey, making it easy for listeners to sing along. The message is relatable for anyone who has a personal, one-on-one relationship with the Father—when we call on Him, He answers.
One line that stood out to me and stayed on my mind was when Craig said, “People be leavin’ you because they don’t believe in you.” Let that sink in. Think about all the people who have walked away from you—whether because they didn’t believe in you, your dreams, or what God has told you. That line alone carries so much weight!
The beat is subtle yet attention-grabbing, and the production is solid. I could tell the producer used multiple elements, including drums and keys, to create a rich sound. Add in Craig’s flow, delivery, and vocal presence, and his voice becomes another instrument seamlessly blending into the track.
From what I’ve seen, Craig puts on a great live performance. I can only imagine how powerful it would be to hear Call Right Back performed live.
