What did I just ear? I mean besides bars and and a dope beat! What I heard was a history lesson. Wilfredo just put us up on game with “Preaching to the Choir”. I was a short tease, but a powerful message!
I recently became infatuated with Wilfredo’s catalog. The first time was when I reviewed his ” W.E. ARE” EP where he collaborated with Enkosé for what should be classified as a hit-classic! The second time was when I reviewed the new single “Undrdawg Szn” by Ion the Producer feat. Wilfredo! And now we’ve arrived at “Preaching to the Choir”. If you haven’t heard this one, you’re in for a treat my friends. Click the YouTube link above to watch the visual.
“Preaching to the Choir” is a strong and powerful message and a warning not to let yourself get caught up or influenced by the false teachings of the modern-day Christian church. I was amazed at how much I learned because Wilfredo was not about to let us remain uneducated on the facts. Yes, the false idea known as “Doctrine of Discovery” can easily fly under our noses and pass the smell test if you aren’t educated on the Christian-led oppression of so many people in this country and abroad. It’s what they refused to tell us about in our history books.
In quoting Wilfredo’s words, “The “Doctrine of Discovery” was the idea that Christian nations had the right to claim lands inhabited by non-Christians. So that’s the foundation of America and the “Manifest Destiny” which dates back to a 19th-century belief that the United States was destined to expand across North America. It took that mindset and said, “God wants us to conquer.” Look around—what did we become? A country built on exploitation and calling it divine.”
I love that Wilfredo doesn’t hesitate to call out hypocrisy in the modern-day church. Mainly because a lot of people still hold to the selfish ideals of money, power, and greed and call it God-honoring. Those are the very same thoughts that have led Christians in a misdirection of the true calling of the faith for centuries.
The song and visuals itself were phenomenal. I always enjoy a good Wilfredo verse! He packs them with with powerful wordplay, double entendres, metaphors, similes , and overly impressive flow pattern and style. In this short 1 minute and 30 second, you get so much of a picture painted you about the tumultuous times our country is facing; from politics to Christianity. The piece couldn’t have come at a better time for Christians to hear the truth and start believing in it.
I pray that the song opens your eyes the way it did mine and that you get a good history lesson out of it that causes you to self-correct and take stock of the doctrine you’re pushing.
