“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Hebrews 10:23-25 NIV
I know COVID-19 has some of us feeling isolated and even trapped. Shelter in place orders are going all over the place. Corona got us out here looking like Bane or Optimus Prime. Depending on how sophisticated your mask is. LoL. This all let’s us know how God has innately made us communal people. Even the biggest of introverts find themselves at times wanting to connect with other people and then going back into our holes. Yeah, I’m speaking for me. LoL
God said in the beginning that it was not good for man to be alone. Then He puts Adam to sleep and creates Eve and the plan multiplying the earth comes into play. God makes mankind to reproduce after its kind. I think this deeper than just simply having sex to reproduce human beings, but that God, like Himself, made us to be able reproduce our image and our likeness. That we can not only pass on our physical traits, but that we can share the character that is built on the inside of us.
We can do this through teaching, how we live and through fellowship. We can learn and share the teachings of Christ. We live lives that express the teachings of the gospel and model that to others. Then we also break bread and fellowship together. I like to say we have those that we do life with.
Now in the current circumstances we have to physically be separated and it seems that the Bible’s instruction for us to gather together is void. It is not and we need it now more than ever. This is an opportunity for the church to be the church! I’m not saying go against the laws that have been put into place that restrict us from physically gathering. What I am saying do not let this be a trick of the enemy that causes you to distance yourself from the word of God and the family of God.
Stay connected. Reach out to others. You never know who or how folks may be struggling at this time. Your voice or a kind word could be what they need to keep them steadfast in the faith. We are the body of Christ. Let us continue to be the joint that supplies the need to another. (Ephesians 4:16 NIV) When God saves us He put us into the body of Christ. Let us continue to keep the eternal cypher of the saints going.
