“Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.”

Romans 5:1-5 NRSV

Our culture tends to get overly saturated with the word love. We have sayings like, “All we need is love.” Those sound good and are meant to be positive. Nothing wrong with that, but in proper context are not completely true. A young couple in love runs off and gets married. They don’t really know each other and don’t have any money, but they’re in love. While being in love is all well and good it’s not going to pay the bills or do the practical things to build the relationship so it lasts.

God’s love is not so. It is not just some word we throw out there. His love isn’t just about a person, but it is a person. God is love. When we are saved His love is poured into us and lives in us. We are in God and God is in us. We live, move and have our being in him. This isn’t how we normally use this phrase, but we are IN love. Now we live our lives walking in the love of Christ.

“So we have known and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.”

1 John 4:16 NRSV

Not only that, but we have more love than we could ever imagine. We don’t keep it all to ourselves, but we have more than enough to share with others around us. We are to love the people around us, family, friend or stranger, the way Christ has loved us. It isn’t the type of love that is just caught up in emotion and focused on what others can do for us. It is a love that goes above and beyond for others.

The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. As part of our mission as ambassadors for Christ we are to share that love with others. Especially those of the household of faith. Then the world can know that we are Christians and the God we serve by the love we have for one another. Then they can be as we are. IN love with the Christ.

That leads us to our Throwback Theology Song of the Week. It comes from gospel hip hop artist B.B. Jay. This is from the 2000 project “Universal Concussion.” The featured track is called “His Love.” Tune into the Trackstarz show this week to hear DJ Jeremaya spin this for the Throwback Theology Song of the Day. Until next time…

Peace and blessings,
