“God also said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you’: This is my name forever, and this my title for all generations.”
Exodus 3:15 NRSV
I’m sure most of you have seen the movie “Black Panther.” A classic scene in that film is Challenge Day. This is when M’Baku comes to challenge T’Challa for his throne. In the midst of what looks like a losing battle for T’Challa his mother screams, “Show them who you are!”
This cry inspired him to rise and win the fight. Being reminded of his identity reignited the fire inside of him that the battle tried to put out. Identity is important as you go through life. It serves as a guide to keep you on course.
In Exodus God called Moses to free His people from Pharaoh. When Moses comes to God in the form of a burning bush the first thing God does is identify Himself. Moses questions God. First about his own identity. Then asking God who does he say sent him.
God explains Himself and lets Moses know that He is with him. This is a reminder that we find our identity in Christ and He empowers us to take on whatever fight lies ahead of us. Remember if you don’t quit you will win, because God has already given us the victory through Christ Jesus.
That leads us to our Throwback Song of the Week. This one comes from hip hop duo New Breed. The brother and sister team of Macho and Elsie from the Tunnel Rats. This is from their 2002 album “Stop The Music.” Tune into the Trackstarz show this week to hear DJ Jeremaya spin this song for the Throwback Song of the Day. Until next time…
Peace and blessings,
Damo
