“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”
Colossians 2:6-7 NRSV
We are kingdom citizens. That sounds pretty simple, but it is easy to lose sight of a simple yet profound truth. We are in this world, but we are not of this world. We have been given the name that is above every name in Jesus Christ. He has written His truth on hearts and spread His love in our hearts by His Holy Spirit. Now we can walk in kingdom authority.
Does that mean we are better than other people? No. We are all born in sin and shaped in iniquity. We were all headed to Hell on a greased poll and were in need of the grace of God. Now that we are in the kingdom God gives us the job of getting other out of darkness and into the marvelous light. We are all a grace case.
Now that we are in the kingdom God is continually perfecting us to be like His Son Jesus. It’s a process y’all. None of us are perfect, but we have been made new. We were in darkness and then we opened the door so Christ could bring His light in. We are made new, because now we are alive on the inside.
We were dead, because we were separated from God. When Christ comes in we are made new in our spirit man. Now we have to take that new man and work on this mind of ours. We have to reprogram our thinking so we can live based on the newness of life that is now in us.
Many times in the Bible God likens man to trees. The roots of a tree have to grow deep for the tree to be strong and grow. You can chop the tree down, but if the root is there you can’t get rid of it. God by His Spirit uproots the nature of sin in us and puts in the new root of Christ. We are new. The struggle with sin is just us reprogramming the computer of our mind. Renewing the mind transforms us, because we are now putting our will in line with the will of God. The old you passes away and the new you is coming forth. Amen.
