“I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead! I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.”
Philippians 3:10-12 NLT
I was listening to the Steve Harvey Show this morning. He starts off the show with a short devotional. Today he talked about how we can’t achieve real success without God. Not that we won’t have any success at all, but there are times where the achievements we have and the stacks of cash we have won’t solve our problems. When the times get hard and your resources don’t cut it what do you do? Who can you turn to? The Lord says He’s an ever present help in times of trouble.
Saying that to say God never leaves us or forsakes us. Even when either by word or by action are telling God we don’t want Him He remains faithful. That is a persistent kind of love. Think about Pepe Lepew on the Looney tunes cartoons. That’s old school if you’re not familiar. He’s a skunk in love with a cat that he thinks is a skunk. He’s already in the wrong going after a cat. Secondly, the cat wants nothing to do with him. Yet he goes after with a persistence that is unmatched.
Unlike Pepe God is not mistaken in His affection toward us. We are who He is looking for. We are the apple of His eye. We tend to push Christ away, but He continues to come after us relentlessly. Not so much like Pepe. God is more of a gentleman, but the persistency is still the same. He looks to capture our hearts and to have us endlessly in love with Him.
Typically, when we talk about getting saved we say that we found Christ. I know what we mean when we say that, but in actuality He’s not lost. We are. He leaves the 99 to come and save the one. In return God asks us to love Him with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength. We have already captured His heart. He died to save us because He first loved us. Now we are to be captured by Him.
That leads us to our Throwback Song of the Week. We’re going back to the Lou to the homie Flame. This is from his 2010 project entitled “Captured”. The featured track is the title track of the album and features V. Rose. Tune into the Trackstarz show this week to hear DJ Jeremaya play this for the Throwback Song of the Day. Until next time…
Peace and blessings,
Damo
