From the back to the front, Detroit native Calvin Cofield is in his “Own Lane” following God alone!

The best athletes, throughout history, have given a plethora of reasons for their success. One thread that seems to run through the masses of answers is the drive to beat one’s personal best. Many of the greatest minds, and talents, in the world aren’t competing against others. They compete against themselves. They aim to be the best that they can be, and don’t spend much time thinking about the competition, or chasing validation from the rest of the world. It’s common to see people less interested in their own calling, and covetous of the callings of others. This is also in the body of Christ, with preachers wanting to be singers, and singers wanting to be prophets. The list could go on, but we only want what God has for us. We know that every good thing comes from God, and focusing only on our personal best is one of them. Psalms 75, in verses 6 and 7, talks about promotion not coming from the world, but coming from God. When we started this musical journey, we moved according to a mandate from God, alone. No one was backing us. The support that we have now, grew organically as a result of us just running the race that God set before us. He has opened doors that no man can shut, and closed doors, that He did not ordain. Through it all, we have focused on the lane that He set before us. Some ask how we have created such a unique style, that is different from today’s Gospel sound; the answer is simple, we are running our own lane, and God is directing our path. Proverbs‬ ‭3:5-6‬ says, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” This song encourages listeners to do the same. God created each person wonderfully and uniquely, to fulfill his distinct purposes for each life. Why emulate the next person, when God has a plan just for you? Let’s all run, and be exactly what God created us to be!
