“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
2 Timothy 1:7 NLT

We are living in some dark days. Jesus said that there would be wars and rumors of wars. Yet He still gives us hope in these bad times. He said we will have trials in this world but be of good cheer because He has overcome the world. We have nations threatening to bomb us, the incident in Charlottesville and a president who seems to be insensitive to the struggles of the people he was assigned to govern. These are definitely some rough times.
In Christ, we still have hope. Jesus is the hope of glory. We are not only waiting for our great King to crack the sky and rapture His people, but He lives on the inside of us NOW and gives us the hope, grace and peace that we need to live in this world. Paul writes this letter to Timothy to encourage in the faith. In laymen’s terms Paul told Peter don’t let them punk you. God has given you what you need on the inside of you to do what He has called you to do. He didn’t give you fear. He gave you power love and a sound mind.
Paul goes on to tell Timothy that if we live for Christ, we will suffer persecution, but to hold on to the teachings of Christ that he was taught. (2 Timothy 3:12-17 NLT http://bible.com/116/2ti.3.12-17.nlt) It’s going to be hard, but endure that hardness for the name of Christ. We don’t have to be afraid, because God has given us the victory.
