cash hollistah. – “goRilla.” ft Sean C. Johnson| Throwback Theology| @cashhollistah @seancjohnson @trackstarz

“If King Kong had a microphone bouncing to a metronome it probably sound something like this, like this.  We’ve been riding for them years, well-respected amongst our peers, but we still can’t get no love around here.  What we do?  goRilla.”

That is the hook sung by Sean C. Johnson to the 2012 track “goRilla.” by Kansas rapper cash hollistah.  My first time coming across this artist was scrolling through YouTube and the video for this song had just recently dropped.  This is one of the songs for me that marked the progression of CHH.  It was a banger, that wasn’t preachy and brought that raw aggression like only hip hop can bring.

I was familiar with singer Sean C. Johnson.  This was around the same time that his project “Simply A Vessel, Vol. 3: Surrender All” had recently dropped.  I was a big fan of his, so I figured this track he was featured on had to be at least pretty good.  The video starts and I hear someone scream, “I’m about to goRilla!”  Then I hear these computerized, arcade game like sounds and the snare starts to come in.  cash hollistah. starts to rap.  Immediately, my head starts bobbing like, “Ok!”  Then the hook comes in.  The end is result is, I’m in love all over again.  Who is this guy cash hollistah.? And does he have any other music out?

At the time, he only had a few singles out and this one was his latest.  I loved the wordplay of the song title.  He takes the word “gorilla” and is using it as an alternative for “go realer”.  In other words, we might use the term “beast mode”.  The message is regardless of how people talk about you or disrespect you or even misunderstand you and GOES HARD!  God has given you gifts, talents and abilities.  People aren’t going to always understand what God has called you to do or the methods you use to accomplish that calling.  It doesn’t matter goRilla.  Go all out for the glory of God.  In case you were wondering, cash hollistah. has music available on all of your digital platforms and just recently released a new video for a song called “Jump”.  Check out this throwback video and let us know what you think.

Peace and blessings.
