Today we will be interviewing Kyra De’Nae who recently dropped her debut album “Just Denae.” She is definitely talented and someone you should know about. Peep the interview below:
TZ: Tell the World just who is Kyra De’Nae?
KD: Kyra De’Nae is a regular girl and she’s actually quite boring lol. Outside of writing, singing, and rapping I have a regular job and regular BILLS lol. I’m just someone who enjoys everything about music. I love creating it because it’s therapy for me.
TZ: Who or what made you want to pursue music?
KD: My love for singing inspired me to pursue music. I sing all day every day, so why not get paid for it? Lol I’m playing…but at first I thought I would just do it as a hobby, but once I got in the booth, I knew music was something I could be content with doing for the rest of my life.
TZ: It seems as if most artists when they get started play around with the art, at what age did you start to take music seriously and what triggered the change?
KD: I started when I was 17 but life kept me from going hard at it. Here I am 23 and I just said eff life, eff what it throws at me. I’m not going to let little setbacks keep me from doing what I love to do. The dope thing is that I had time to grow into myself. I find myself listening to old tracks like eww lol what was I thinking. The growth is real and I love it.
TZ: Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
KD: I’m down with Lauryn, E. Badu, Lalah Hathaway, Ella Fitzgerald, Prince, J. Cole, and my new favorite Lianne La Havas I want to be like her when I grow up.
TZ: You cover some “taboo” subjects in your songs on this album, what was the motivation behind it and how has the project been received thus far?
KD: Truth was my motivation. Every song on my album is linked to me and my past and it’s all a part of my truth, my story. I wanted to let people know what I’ve been through while at the same time bringing up those heavy topics that people don’t like to discuss. Surprisingly the project has been received quite well. It’s getting a lot of great feedback. I must admit I was super nervous and anxious about how the listeners would respond but I’m happy with the results.
