Artists We Sleeping On: Kyra De’nae| blog| @justdenae_ @kennyfresh_1914 @trackstarz

Having a lot of good music drop all around the same time can be a blessing and a curse. It’s a blessing in my opinion, because good music makes life a little more bearable. Music is the soundtrack to life, and it’s a universal language that nearly every one in the world understands. It can be a curse, especially for relatively unknown artists, because if they drop their album in the middle of a river of new music dropping, they tend to get overlooked. I believe this is what happened to a phenomenal artist Kyra De’nae.

For those not familiar with Kyra, she has gotten to work wit some of CHH’s best especially from the artists on the West Coast. She has been featured on Beleaf and John Givez’s albums, as well as other features. I was definitely sleeping on her until a couple of weeks ago. I was scrolling through Soundcloud and saw that John Givens had shared a track titled ” I Thought I knew You” by Kyra De’nae and J. Givens was featured on it. I know that J. hadn’t been doing a whole lot of features, so I went ahead and checked the song out. What greeted my ears was this soulful and sultry voice over an ominous beat. I was so taken with the song that I had to search out the whole album.

Two words come to mind when trying to describe this project: real and soulful. Kyra bears her soul and talks about tough topics such as alcohol addiction, sex, and abortion. Kyra holds nothing back as she speaks on her testimony in album format. The confidence in the singing and the production would not have you thinking that this was Krya De’nae’s debut album. This amazing project dropped in the middle of October and no one is talking about it, which is a shame. The songs “Dive In,” “Choices and Plans,” and “I Thought I Knew You” are gaining some great traction, but no one is talking about this body of work  as a whole. I suggest you wake up on this artist and see what your ears have been missing.
