Last Week an article posted on why you all needed to get to know the phenomenal artist known as Lauren Michel. Now this week, we got to interview this artist. Come along for the ride as we get to know the re-educated Lauren Michel.
TZ: Just who is Lauren Michel?
LM:Lauren Michel is a Southern girl born to two northern parents who grew up with a deep love and respect for music. I was born in Birmingham, AL and was raised with two older brothers so with that being said, I can be very sweet and soft spoken with a southern hospitality attitude or I can be a bit of a handful with a smart mouth and a tough edge; being raised with boys all my life.
TZ: How did you get into music?
LM: Our household was always saturated with music growing up. Whether it was my father playing his old Aerosmith records or my mom blasting Gospel in the kitchen. I was born into music I guess you could say. I always idolized my father who is a guitarist and lyricist; so I knew from a very young age that I wanted to follow in his footsteps. I was that kid that would line up teddy bears and Barbie dolls, and sing into a brush for 5 hours pretending to put on a concert.
TZ: What has been your best experience inside music so far?
LM: I think being able to connect with people on a deeper level than I could have ever imagined is the best part for me. I always love to hear people’s opinions or emotions when they listen to my songs, because sometimes it’s like wow I depicted my feelings so clearly that they actually felt what I was feeling or it still stimulated the listener in some sort of emotional way, even if I didn’t mean for it to have that specific effect.
TZ: Why did Lauren Michel have to be “re-educated”
LM: I grew up in a very conservative culture and I was never a wild kid but I also didn’t really know the point or value behind church and things like that. I struggled with a lot of things throughout high school that really took over my life once I graduated and I went down a lot of roads that I never thought I would when I was younger. It came to a point that I knew I had to make a change or things weren’t going to end very well for me. This began the process of me stepping away from a lot of people and different things that I had been doing, so that I could “re-educate” myself on who I really wanted to be as a person.
TZ: What is the difference between Lady Lox and Lauren Michel?
LM: Lox is my previous stage name and I decided to change it because a different persona went along with that name as well. I felt like once I got saved I became who my parents and God always wanted me to be, which was the person they had named me to be. Lauren means crown of leaves and Michelle means like God. Parents don’t simply just give you a name, but they use your name to set a path for your whole life. I decided to go with my actual name, because I found who I was when I found God so there was no need to create another person to be out on the stage, because who I was born to be is good enough.
There’s more where that came from! Stay tuned for part two as Lauren tells us more about her project, her experience with the crew over at King’s Dream Entertainment and more!
