4th Avenue Jones | Stereo Video Review | @chicangeorge @trackstarz

It’s always great to see hip hop groups that have a great bond. It’s also great to see those groups experiment with things outside of the normal box. This can clearly be seen with 4th Avenue Jones. I remember liking Ahmad from his “Back in the day” song (I LOVED that sample) and always wanted to see what he would do with his career. It was great seeing him form a group with his wife and taking on the name combining the “keeping up with the Joneses” and their street that they practiced on.

I always loved their “Stereo” video. One of the biggest things you notice about the video is his editing. It made the video so unique. I love how the song had a similar theme of Common’sI used to love H.E.R.” mixed with a touch of the movie “Brown Sugar” to it. Even though the subject matter is serious, the video and colors keep it entertaining and energy filled. The visuals make the scrapbook walk down memory lane such a great video. I love how the stereo can symbolize music, his relationship with God and his relationship with his wife. I remember feeling sad as he broke up with his stereo and getting back together with her.

Even though the band isn’t together anymore, I will always remember them. I will remember their bravery to be creative in a genre that was still finding its voice. Many of us should watch this video again and think about our stereo experiences. Spread The Soup!
