Derek Minor has always been a monster on the mic. Many people started getting hip to him around his “Empire” album, which was a great album. However, as we take it back 5 years and a week ago, true CHH fans had a treat with “Dying to live.”
I remember not really hearing a lot of artists that caught my ear lyrically in 2011. I remember seeing Derek’s “Get it” video and changing my mind quickly! I love the way it was filmed/shot. I enjoy the feel of unity amongst his label mates/friends “standing behind him,” as he rapped his verses. One of the most entertaining moments was when the street dancer was completely in sync with the beat from 0:18-0:23. The hook is so catchy and the bars have true life in them. The sound effects to reflect his wordplay gives the video and song the icing on the cake. The way the video changes from black and white to color as the song changes is genius as well.
This is a classic CHH video. It displays the heart and heat that CHH artists can bring to the table and have been doing for awhile. If you haven’t heard his “dying to live” or any other of Derek Minor’s projects… you need to “get it.” Spread The Soup!
