Yesterday, it was confirmed that Lecrae will be performing at the 2016 BET Hip-Hop Awards. This is not just great news for Lecrae, but for the CHH culture period. There are many other benefits from him performing as well. I decided to enlighten you on these 3 delightful “D” reasons of why it’s great that he will be performing at the awards show this year:
Discipleship– Of course, this is the most obvious one. Not only will he be spreading the gospel to those that hear him perform, but to the artists that he is around at the event. It is not only a testament that when he first performed on the B.E.T. cyphers, he came with it representing Christ and real bars, but that 5 years later he’s even more grounded in his calling and craft.
Diction- We are living in the era of “mumble rappers.” This is not from my opinion, this is actually a current term/genre that is rising within hip hop. One thing that you can’t deny about Lecrae is his flow and his diction with words. No matter how fast or slow the BPM (Beats Per Minute) is set for on the track, Lecrae usually kills his verses with his cadence and always has excellent enunciation with his words. From listening to Lecrae’s flow with Statik Selektah with “Live & let live” to his slowed and sped up flow on “Don’t Waste your life,” we can see that Lecrae has the opportunity to resurrect real flow to hip hop on a mainstream platform.
Destination Tour– By performing on the B.E.T. awards, this will also help bring more attention to his “The Destination Tour, You’re Accepted” tour. Getting ready to release new music and giving people an outlet from all of the social injustices happening recently, this could help give hope to many that are grieving and looking for hope.
Whether you like/support Lecrae as an artist or not, it is always wise for all the believers to be praying for him as he goes into the lion’s den. We will never know whose life he may change or who he may lead to Christ. The fact that they want him to come back to perform says something about his character and craft as an artist. May you impact those at the B.E.T. awards and the ones that watch Lecrae. Spread The Soup!
