Open Ears | Ten Rappers Who Can Sing | @kb_hga @joeyjewish @johngivez @ahagazelle @thederekminor @tjpompeo @andymineo @sothekid @nfrealmusic @gemstonesforlife @trackstarz

It’s always nice to hear something new come from hip hop artists. Whether it’s flow patters, lyrical content or ambitious production, there is just something special when you hear a rapper try out their vocals a little bit. Here are 10 hip hop artist who can actually sing very well with little to no auto-tune.

1. KB

KB over the years has been a very diversified artist and has taken his stab at singing some of his own hooks, but his biggest leap was the ode to his first born son in the song, “Fall In Love With You.”

2. Joey Jewish

Joey Jewish can be described as one of these wild cards that you have a hard time categorizing, because he’s so proficient at both rapping and singing. I personally believe his best work is in the song “Over Here” feat. Ruslan from Kings Dream Ent.

3. John Givez

John is a strong forerunner in the CHH genre and you don’t really get there by being too generic…with having some of the most progressive lyrics, John has one of the most distinguishable voices in the game now. Listen to this great song, “A Playaz Change Of Heart” feat. his cousin JGivens.

4. Aha Gazelle

One of the Rapzilla Freshman class of 2015, Aha has made a name for himself in the past year, being on multiple tracks where he is rapping and doing some good vocal work. Listen and watch his “Vegeta” video from his Free Barrabbas mixtape.

5. Derek Minor

I have never been so shocked to here this amazing amount of singing coming from a rapper. Derek Minor has done some vocals here and there on some hooks, but most of them were drowned in so much auto-tune, it was hard to hear his own voice. One of the biggest highlights from his Empire record was the song “Fly” feat. Colton Dixon. I knew Colton was a great singer, but just hearing Derek next to him it was very hard to tell if it was Derek singing or not.

6. TJ Pompeo

TJ is one of those artist that also like Joey Jewish is a wild card. He can literally do it all and with each new project he blends both his singing and raps together so well, it is hard to catagorize him. Go ahead and listen to the song “Eyes” off of his debut album, Confessions of a Hopeless Romantic.

7. Andy Mineo

Now this may not come as a huge surprise to most people but Andy Mineo can sing! I say he was one of the first major artists to really showcase both halves of this artistry and it’s only gotten better with time. Check out the song “Strange Motions” feat. Willow Stephens from his Uncomfortable album.

8. S.O.

Lamp Mode artist S.O. is in my opinion a really under rated artist just for the performance he brings to each song. He can tell some of the best stories in each song, along with his U.K. accent, it just always sounds amazing! Listen to this powerful track from his debut album So It Continues, “Passion and Purity.”

9. NF

NF is most likely one of the most passionate artist in CHH now. He got the attention of a lot of people back in 2014 when he was the first rapper to sign to Capitol CMG and dropped his first retail EP titled NF. But most likely his biggest break out was when Flame featured him to sing in the closing track of his Royal Flush album on the song “Start Over.”

10. Gemstones

From being featured in music with Lupe Fiasco to now being signed to one of the biggest labels in CHH, there is plenty of music under this guys belt to get a feel for the range of his artistic abilities. Check out this anthem like song from his Blind Elephant album “Almost Home.”
