I often bite off more than I can chew. Especially when I am trying to be a helping hand to something important. When I first got involved in leadership, I would think of a lot of great ideas and offer to head them up. I thought I was doing more, but I was actually not doing much of anything. The reason was because after I made the starting attempt on all these different things, I eventually gave up, because I put too much on my plate. Soon after this, I learned that taking on small tasks and being dependable on these were the best way to be a huge help. Leaders would rather have people they can depend on for small tasks all the time than people doing big tasks part of the time.
This is an example of that famous saying “less is more.” Another phrase that backs this up is “quality over quantity.” Don’t rush into so many things that you are not able to finish any of them or barely finishing. Take on one thing at a time, figure out how to maximize your value in that task, and then evaluate what else you may be able to do as effectively. This will not only boost your leadership’s value of you, but you will also feel more accomplished knowing you are able to complete a task with excellence. I guess this can be rapped up in three words. Know Your Limits.
