Mike Sarge releases his newest album Excuse The Honesty July 23, 2016. Mike has explained this album is just him being honest with his thoughts and concerns of what he has been seeing in our culture. It starts immediately form the jump with the first track No Apologies. The second song is a hit with Kaleb Mitchell and Mouthpi3ce. Great beat and in my opinion, one of the best tracks on this album. All three artists did great with their bars and delivery. Green Tea was the single released for this album and it has Wxnder Y and Alano Adan fka Flo. I personally liked the hook on this song and it has had my head nodding for the past month.
Blind Eyes ft KYNG discusses some of the false perceptions that we see in media. I liked how he was diverse in the different areas he addressed in this track. We Lit Tho is one of my favorites. You can play this and just vibe out to it. This is a song to ride to for sure. In Trust Issues Sarge talks about some personal issues he has had from childhood to now. Many will be able to relate to his scenarios shared in this song. Nothing Less ft Wxnder Y & Germaine Martel is an anthem for those who are grinding to do their best. Giving your all and “Nothing Less” is the message I got from this track. Royalty feat Mike Teezy discusses being a child of the King and how we have royalty in us through Him. If you haven’t heard of Mike Teezy, this is a great introduction to him. It was my first time hearing him and he murdered his verse.
How You Feel is another great track with a good vibe. This is one that discusses overcoming bad relationships. From production to lyrical performance and very relatable message, Ghost is hands down my favorite track on this album. It shares thoughts that we may have had toward God in our down times. Things don’t always go our way and we could reach a time of doubt or disappointment. This is a very great thought provoking song. One Call Away is a great follow up track to Ghost. This song talks about God being one call away from us when we are having troubles. We say we give it all to Him but then try to take control again. Another song for many to relate to. POV is probably one of the most direct songs addressing the CHH industry and the media. He talks about the divide that exist and gives his point of view (POV) of the situation. The last song is a bonus track. Square Root (Bae) feat Butta P is the first song I have personally heard addressed to a loved one over a trap beat. I enjoyed being able to nod my head to a song that I can sing to my wife. I loved it!
Overall this album has a diverse production lineup and every feature was great. There are no skippable songs on this album for me. I can listen to this at work and never turn the song. I appreciate the honesty that Mike Sarge shares with us and I hope you do to.
