DMX was probably my first favorite Christian rapper. Someone will disagree with him being termed a Christian rapper due to content of many of his songs. If that title doesn’t fit, then he is a rapper who is Christian. He has had many songs talking about his faith in years past with my favorite being “Lord Give Me a Sign.” This was my jam way before I heard of Lecrae for the first time. I heard of messages he would share at concerts and I love the thought of a hip hop artists sharing the gospel during concerts. Since then, music has come along way, especially CHH. Artists are showing different ways of sharing the gospel in their music whether it be more Christ explicit or more day-to-day relatable messages.  In the interview with The Breakfast Club, DMX does both. He shares the gospel on a personal relatable way and by sharing scripture.

In the interview DMX talks about some personal battles with health and business. He discusses those moments in his life where he felt the hand of God rescuing and leading him toward certain things. He also expressed his desire to one day become a preacher. One of the most exciting things for music lovers is that he announced he has 7 gospel songs that he has recorded and wants to release. He didn’t say when or give any specifics on this, but I pray that if it happens that the Christian community (especially the CHH community) will show love. In case you are wondering, no he didn’t mention any CHH artist that we know and love, but I feel that it’s only a matter of time before he reaches out. We should be praying for him and the influence that he will use for leading others to Christ. He ended the hour-long interview in a heartfelt prayer.

There were parts of the interview where you can hear some current struggles in his life. There are areas where many struggle in the mainstream media especially when it comes to sexuality. His struggle is apparent in this interview. I often hear this problem with many artists who are being interviewed about their personal life. I pray that one day the understanding of Godly relationships will penetrate mainstream media and it will help heal our culture and restore the family institution. I also pray that many of these mainstream artists will find some Christian mentors to help them in their walk and learn to follow the Holy Spirit in their day-to-day lives.
