Last week, we got a very one sided response from a “question of the day” we do on Twitter. I felt “a certain way” about some of the answers. Many felt as though the CHH community as a whole don’t respect or show respect to our CHH pioneers. I just wanted to let any reader of this know, we have been doing the “Throwback theology” series all year-long and that you should go back and check out many of our reviews. One of the purposes of “Throwback Theology” is to honor our greatest that have made some form of impact within the culture. Now that I’m off my soap box… LOL…
One of the greatest CHH pioneer groups, without a question, is the Tunnel Rats. One of their greatest videos was “TRz.” Not only did this track/video show you how a group should organically flow together, but gives you such a colorful visual at the same time. The video is symbolic as it shows the group engaging within ALL Five pillars of hip hop through the presence of God. This hows us we can live in this world, but not be like the world. The video shows that we can take a stance and be who we are for God and still be ourselves. This video also shows faithfulness and courage to embrace being a Christian in the music industry. This was always one of my favorite videos to watch and it really helped me to like CHH more. A great takeaway from this video is that God can use anyone and anything to bring Glory to his name. The best part of the video is the end, as we see the b boy kid in his stance, showing us that Tunnel Rats was paving the way for the next generation of believers. As “we do the talking, they will do the walking” as they have done for so many years. And for that, I want to take this time to thank Tunnel Rats for all the work they have done for our genre and for the kingdom of God.
