Today, ESPN launched The Undefeated.com, a “premier platform for exploring the intersections of race, sports and culture.” The websites purpose is to “enlighten and entertain with innovative storytelling, original reporting and provocative commentary.”
Dee-1 was a big part of the day, as he introduces the launch with a new freestyle making it the official Undefeated song. Dee-1 was chosen as the featured artist because as ESPN’s senior writer Jesse Washington states, “the brother can straight-up rap.” He went on to say Dee-1 is “extremely talented on the mic. Dee is also a basketball player, a sports fan who watches ESPN, and an insightful social critic with a deep appreciation for black history. I had been following his music since “50 Weezy and Jay,” and once we met, it was clear he was the perfect artist to create an Undefeated anthem.”
