2pac’s “Dear Momma” has unofficially become the theme song for Mother’s Day. Regardless of how you feel about 2pac on and off the mic, he poured his all into that song showing honor towards his mother. For those who didn’t know her work within social work for black equality, this song held her as the symbol of a mother with undying love for her children and willing to do what she needed to keep them happy and healthy. Hearing of her death yesterday, it made me think of the impact of true mothers in our lives. As a believer, I wanted to talk about 3 biblical mothers and what we should appreciate them for.
Eve– Many times, when we hear about Eve, we are always hearing the bad things that she has done. Many mothers can probably relate to that within itself. Many people continue to down on your parenting skills and decisions or feel that you may not have it all together all the time. We can appreciate that she taught us how to live a life of repentance. We clearly see that after her sin, she taught her sons the right way of honoring God. She didn’t give up on living right for God and she made sure that her kids knew the way as well.
Sarah- Having a promise to hold on in an uncomfortable and uncommon situation can be tough. So, we can appreciate how she had patience, kindness, and faithfulness as God promised her a child. She shows mothers that we can instill into our children that anything is possible through God.
Mary– Similar to Eve, Mary’s story could be hard when thinking about what others could be saying about you. Some could be questioning who “your baby daddy is” or feel that you are not qualified to be a mother. We can truly appreciate that she knew who she was in and for God. It didn’t matter what others thought, she knew what her assignment was.
Were these mothers perfect? No. That is what makes them perfect for us and all the mothers reading this. Learn from these mothers that you hold the power of parenting, peace and power through God. Mothers… you are appreciated! Spread The Soup!
