Marketing is such an important aspect of any business because it brings recognition to the brand and gains customers. As important as this is, you must be sure you are marketing a product of excellence. When someone is forming a startup, the process of improving the actual product and making sure it is well worth the money customers will spend on it, can slip through the cracks. This isn’t good, because you do not want to market or sell a sub-par product. Marketing in today’s world with social media is so much easier than it was 20 years ago. Business or product startups should focus on making a great product, so when people have tried the product, they will not think twice about making a second or third purchase.
When preparing to market your product, think of three people you would want to buy or gift this quality product. Would you buy this product yourself if you had no ties to the product or company? Would you buy this product for your spouse’s anniversary? Would you buy this as a gift for a lifelong mentor? If you said no to any one of these, then you should reexamine and see what can be done to improve the product. Getting these two steps in the wrong order can be detrimental to a company and their brand. Build your product, then build your brand.
