The Christian and Political Partisans (@thecatalyst1 @trackstarz)

We have been taught that there is an implied rule at the dinner table with guests. You don’t talk about politics and religion. Well, we may not be at a dinner table but I am about to shatter that rule by shooting both birds with one stone.

As I scroll through my social media feeds, I can’t help but be so overwhelmed by everything happening in our nation. Honestly, it’s not about the problems themselves. As Christians, we should know that no matter what happens around us, Christ has made His glorious triumph over them already. He said so in John 16:33, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

My fear is that as the church, we have lost sight on who we should rally around. No, it is not on the Republican side nor on the Democratic side. As a matter of fact it is not on any political side. Can we truly claim that either side is something a Christ follower should support? Both parties support things that are not biblical. How can we, with a clean conscience, fully support either? Maybe we we’re not born to be either.

Now listen, I understand we all have those we hope will bring change to our nation. But no matter who you support for president, don’t let it consume you to the point that all of your expectations of what you want to see happen depends on that person. Some of us have lifted up these men and women to a position that they simply cannot meet. They are humans, like us. Sinners, like us. In need of a Savior, like us.

That being said, I firmly believe God wants us to be involved in our nations politics. It is our responsibility to be stewards of what He has blessed us with. However, we can’t let our patriotism outweigh our devotion to Christ.  Only HE can bring the change our nation truly needs. Let not your focus and faith shift towards man, rather let it be rooted in our perfect and true King. We need reform in the church in America. We cannot let this division in our nation continue to take root in our churches. We may disagree politically, but I believe firmly in the power of the Gospel. We must turn back to it in order to bridge the gap once again.

On a side note, I see a lot of Christians become great campaign promoters on social media. Imagine the impact we would have if we promoted the Gospel with the same passion and enthusiasm.
