Lecrae is not only known as a rapper who is a Christian, father, husband, friend, actor, advocate for troubled youth but now as a Doctor. On Monday, Lecrae received an honorary doctorate of music from Canada Christian College before performing “Say I Won’t” for the audience on his Higher Learning Tour. Each year the college chooses an exceptional individual to receive an honorary doctorate, which is the highest degree the college can bestow. The degree is not earned only in the classroom, but through exceptional achievement for a lifetime. This degree has been bestowed in the past to T.D. Jakes, Billy Graham and John Hagee. Lecrae is the youngest recipient of this degree.
“His talents are amazing, as are his achievements,” said president Dr. Charles McVety of Canada Christian College. In a letter to Mayor John Tory and police Chief Mark Saunders, McVety writes: “Lecrae was raised by a single mother and he never met his father. He was lost in the inner city of Houston taking drugs and reportedly dealing heroin. God dramatically turned his life around from the ghetto to the pinnacle of success. Now Lecrae wants the same for others as he is taking his message of hope and fatherhood to inner city youth.”
Congratulations Lecrae! We know you will continue to use these achievements for God’s Glory!!
