Recover Your Resource (@thisisraysurnet @trackstarz)

No matter what the economy is doing, we could always save more.  Whether for long-term goals like retirement or home ownership, or short-term goals like a vacation or entrepreneurship, a penny saved is a penny earned.  When we decided to employ ourselves we didn’t follow the prescribed 6 months of living expenses program.  We stepped out indeed.  This journey has not always been glamorous, but it has been fun and superbly rewarding!

With “Recover Your Resource,” I hope to share with you a few things we have learned along the way with regard to our money in order to help us reach our goals.

Cutting Back

Television has always been a part of my life and the thought of living without cable was once enough to invoke panic! I have now learned that cable is and was intended to be a luxury.  Thankfully, there are alternatives that will still keep you connected and currently entertained.  An HD antenna can be purchased from any grocery or drug type store for no more than $10-$20 dollars (I wouldn’t suggest spending a lot on this, as you will get the same channels anyway).  What about my shows??? Glad you asked, the best website I have found for keeping up with my guilty pleasures is 353online.com. They have the show available the day after it airs on cable, commercial and cost-free! Other shows can be purchased on iTunes or Google play apps for pay per episode.  New outlets are always popping up, so Netflix and Hulu are not your only options anymore.  Roku and Amazon are also viable options.

I was once an offender of the high-priced-coffee drink kind.  Those sugar filled drinks became my drug of choice after long days at work or dealing with a broken nail (do I need an excuse?). In the information age, it is no longer necessary to spend your hard earned money at these coffee houses.  Sites like www.cheatsheet,com and www.yummly.com have all your favorite drink recipes for free.  A quick trip to the grocery store and you are ready to be your own barista!

Next time I’ll be discussing ways to save and still enjoy restaurants (because, who doesn’t love food!).
