It is common to make the mistake of believing we know all we have to know. Especially at a young age. I know very well that’s exactly how I was growing up. I hated being wrong and I hated the fact that someone else could know more than me. I was a smart guy but I wasn’t as smart as I thought I was.
When I gave my life to Christ at the age of 17 in 2007, God began to chip away at my pride and ego. I started to get hungry for knowledge, and specifically Godly wisdom. Of course, I dove into the Scriptures to build a foundation for my faith. Shortly after, I began to dive into books of many theologians, pastors and ministers.
Over the years many books blessed me and have helped shaped me. But if I were to pick 3 these would be it (in no particular order):
- The Grand Weaver by Ravi Zacharias
- “So where does one begin? With self-crucifixion. In effect, we go to our own funeral and bury the self-will so that God’s will can reign supremely in our hearts. Our will has no power to do God’s will until it first dies to its own desires and the Holy Spirit brings a fresh power within.”
- Revolution in World Missions by K. P. Yohannan
- “To expect to continue controlling the use of money and the ministry overseas from our foreign-based mission board is an extension of colonialism. It adds an unbiblical element, which only humiliates and weakens the national missionaries in the long run. Christians need to learn that they are not giving their money to national workers, but God’s money to His work overseas.”
- Radical by David Platt
- “But do you and I realize what we are doing at this point? We are molding Jesus into our image. He is beginning to look a lot like us because, after all, that is whom we are most comfortable with. And the danger now is that when we gather in our church building to sing and lift up our hands in worship, we may not actually be worshiping the Jesus of the Bible. Instead we may be worshiping ourselves.”
Let’s never come to the point where we think we can’t grow any more. There is no limit in our capacity to grow in the Lord and His wisdom. God has blessed many brothers and sisters in the faith with knowledge and wisdom to help the church grow. My prayer is to one day be able write a book or two to help the church through my experiences and testimony.
What are some of your favorite books that have blessed your walk with Christ?
