The Power of Music| Blog| @ryanmw92 @trackstarz

On an everyday basis, we are surrounded by soundtracks presenting many different messages. Recently, I have discovered so much amazing music that brings inspiration, joy, peace, and ‘chill vibes’ to my days. From Passion and Hillsong, to J Cole, Taelor Gray, and Swoope, so many artists are on heavy rotation when I’m listening to music. Even throwing it back to Louis Armstrong, there’s always music for the moment.

One thing though, is that music has such power over our moods and thoughts throughout our days. It has the power to cause us to reminisce from an old break-up, to bring tears of joy knowing we are in the presence of our Savior. Music has such a stronghold on us, and can be used in such a way to guide us emotionally.

This past Sunday, my pastor asked us these questions: What is the soundtrack to your current season of life? What is it that you’re listening to that determines your mindset? Does that soundtrack bring faith or fear? These questions penetrated me so deeply. It is so important for us to be fueled by faith even in the unknown. Fear, simply, is having faith in the enemy. Fear, however, is not a sin. It is a natural reaction. It’s just when we focus more on the fears than the faith in Christ, it gives the enemy a stronghold in our minds.

That is why it is so important to listen to songs that put our fears in darkness. I’m not saying to neglect good music, whether Christian or not. I am saying that we all need to fill our soundtracks with songs that will bring us joy and to propel us through our lives in a positive light.

Jesus loves to bring us joy. He also loves music and when we use it to glorify Him. Different people listen to different music, but we can all come under the fact that we feel a type of way based on the music we listen too. So I challenge us to change what we listen to. To listen to songs that drive us forward in faith and joy. Let’s see what happens to our daily adventures when we are propelled by faith and not fear.

Much love,
Ryan W.
