Shine ‘No Coasters’ Video Review | Throwback Theology| @shines140 @chicangeorge @trackstarz

After interviewing Shine for a segment on a Horror Story as a Radio personality, I began to realize that he was/is an emcee as well. I remember being heavily involved with his process of creating his “No Coasters” Video.

Within the video, he describes a sad, but constant story of domestic violence in many homes. We see a couple that begin to fight (physically and verbally) and the boyfriend begins to belittle his girlfriend. This reminds us that domestic violence is painful from both aspects. Next, we see how mentally, he was breaking her down making her feel as though she has to have him around. With empty promises of getting a job, she suffers the burden of providing for both of them as he drinks and plays video games all day. As he leaves to get some items and beer, ironically, he is killed drinking and driving. One of the saddest things is the end, because we don’t know if she is crying over his death as a sign of relief or a sign of feeling that she needed him in her life.

Overall, the message of this video is so  real. We must learn to value our brothers and sisters. We need to learn to teach our children to honor marriages. We need to teach our sons to be Men to Women. We need to teach our daughters to find a king and not a jester to marry. Thank you Shine for allowing us to hear some really dope lines and see great storytelling skills, but also reminding us that we should always seek God and his actions as a standard for love. I pray that no one has to ever have a “No Coasters” moment. Spread The Soup!
