“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”
Romans 8:28 NLT

We are fresh out of Black History Month. It’s a time when we remember all of the great African Americans of the past. Now we are in March which is celebrated as Women’s History Month where we do the same for the great women of history. The common thread is looking back in the great people and accomplishments of the past. It’s not just for the sake of looking back, but it is to also help propel us into the future.

The past can be a great thing to look at, but a lot of times we look at it as a terrible thing. We look at the mistakes we’ve made or the bad choices and beat ourselves about them. Even to the point where we basically relive those past mistakes in our heads over and over again. Rather than being healed scars we allow the past to be fresh wounds.

Life before or after accepting Christ is not designed to be a crystal stair. We go through things, but it’s what we do take from those things that shapes who we are. We can look at those things and take away being a bad person or being weak or not fit for anything good. That is not so. We all make mistakes and we all do things that we shouldn’t at times. It’s not the end of your story.

God uses all that we go through for the good of His will when we put our trust in Him and let God heal those wounds. Rather than make us weaker they can make us stronger. The past is like a weight in the gym. Your attitude towards the weight ultimately determines your outcome. Of course when you first go into the gym there are weights you physically can’t lift, but in time if you keep working you will get stronger.

Then you can look back at the weights that were your obstacles and appreciate how the struggle made you stronger. That’s the benefit of the past. You see the things you have overcome to help make you stronger in the end. Then you look to Heaven and give God thanks for strengthening you through it as you press towards your future and purpose in God.

That leads us to our Throwback Theology Song of the Week. We’re going gospel this time. Back to the duo of Erica and Tina Campbell – Mary Mary. This is from their 2000 release “Thankful”. The featured track is called “I Sings” and features rapper B.B. Jay. Tune into the Trackstarz show this week and hear DJ Jeremaya play this for the Throwback Theology Song of the Day. Until next time…

Peace and blessings,
Damo
