Jamaica West Interview Pt. 2 | @jamaicawest312 @kennyfresh1025 @trackstarz

Today we are picking up where we left off with our Jamaica West interview. If you missed the first part of the interview, check it out here.

TZ: You recently signed to SlingShot Media Group LLC . How did this happen and what made you sign?

JW: It’s a long story.

Yaves has literally known me since I was 2. My father baptized him. When my dad died a lot was lost. But my mom and family always spoke highly of him. He was like a hometown hero of sorts. Fast forward like 13 years, we reconnected for his album and the rest is history.

No one is really out here taking risks on signing poets / other than humble beast. Yav saw something in me and was willing to take that chance. I was already working on stuff on the music side, so the timing was just perfect.

TZ: Also you said new label, new city new church? Why the new city and the new church?

JW: I meant *new place as in a new apartment. I’m not leaving Chicago anytime soon lol. I also signed with a model agency. I go to All Nations Worship Assembly. I’ve met so many amazing people there and it’s place where I feel the tangible presence of God. My life  Changed when I started going there.

TZ: You announced a project coming soon. How are soon are we talking and what can folks expect from you?

JW: One Week !!! October 25

It will be very different. Weird, encouraging, and very honest.

TZ: What advice would give to newer writers?

JW: Don’t try to sound like anyone else. Tell YOUR story even if it sounds different from everyone else’s.

TZ: Anything else can you want to say to the Trackstarz Universe?

JW: God is sovereign and there is no one above Him.

Jamaica West’s EP titled ‘Bury Cinderella’ dropped yesterday and is available for purchase or stream wherever you consume music digitally. Be sure to cop the project and keep up with Jamaica West at http://jamaicawestpoetry.com/.
