“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12:1-2‬ ‭NRSV‬‬

Stay in your line. It’s a cliché we hear a lot. Most commonly when someone is trying to check someone. They’re trying to put somebody in their place for being for being all up in their business. I hear my mother say it a lot. We’ll talk about something that happened and she’ll say, “I’m just going to stay in my lane. I’ll leave that alone.” It’s either someone trying to get folks to leave them alone or they’re trying not to get caught up in someone else’s mess.

I get it. Stay in your lane. Let’s look at that from a different angle. Instead of trying not to get caught in mess. Let’s look at it from the perspective of walking in your purpose. It’s the beginning of the year and I mentioned before looking back and seeing how God has brought you through to this point. You use the past as an encouragement and to see the faithfulness of God in our lives.

It’s like a car. The windshield is big. You have rearview mirrors, but they just give you a glimpse of what is behind you. The big picture is in front of you. You take glimpses of what is behind you to help you move forward, but your main focus is what is ahead of you. That is the purpose and plan of God for your life. God gave you a lane. It’s not a punishment or a reprimand to be in your lane. It is what God gave to you. In it is what He has for you. The gifts, talents and blessings He has so graciously given you.

As we travel sometimes we swerve a little bit, but God by His grace and mercy leads us back in. Sometimes we allow passengers or things in that distract us from focusing on what is in front of us. Sometimes we have to put those things down or kick those passengers out so we can focus on the road. You may be trying to get me to drive somewhere that I’m not even headed to. Sometimes I bring things in the car that impair my ability to drive. Ok I need the cell phone, but I’m not supposed to text and drive. That’s how I end up in an accident.

No matter who you are or where you are if you have gotten off course or gotten in the wrong lane the Holy Ghost is there to help us make the right course corrections. We can never get too far off that God by His Spirit can’t get us back right. By the power of God we can get in our lane that God designed us for and dominate to the glory of God.

That leads us to our Throwback Theology Song of the Week. We’re headed down to Houston to link up with the OG Dre Murray. This is from his 2008 release entitled “Manumit”. The featured track is called “My Lane”. Tune into the Trackstarz show this week to hear DJ Jeremaya spin this for the Throwback Song of the Day. Until next time…

Peace and blessings,
