“Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies. Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.”

Proverbs 31:10-12 NLT

Typically when you hear people talk about Proverbs 31 or a virtuous woman it is usually from the angle of telling women that they are to be virtuous. That is true. This is not a one sided coin. This is not just a text to tell women to be virtuous. It’s more than that. This is a conversation of a mother to a son.

It is a mother sharing her wisdom with her son to guide him in the ways of truth. Just as much as this is about women being virtuous, but is also about a man becoming wise and making wise choices. I think it’s very fitting. Especially when in Proverbs 3 it refers to wisdom as “she”.

“Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold. Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. She offers you long life in her right hand, and riches and honor in her left. She will guide you down delightful paths; all her ways are satisfying. Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her; happy are those who hold her tightly.”

Proverbs 3:13-18 NLT

It personifies wisdom as a woman. I believe this is because like a mother wisdom nurtures and helps to develop the soul. It even states that wisdom is more precious than rubies. I’m not saying that this is some kind of comparison of women or men being smarter than the other. This is both men and women gaining wisdom.

“Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgment.”

Proverbs 4:7 NLT

https://www.bible.com/116/pro.4.7.nlt

What makes the woman virtuous is the wisdom of God. The man who finds her is a man who has gained the wisdom of God. In other words, wisdom is the principle thing. Or getting wisdom is the best thing you can do.

With that being said, I want to encourage the ladies. It’s not just your looks or how you dress that make you precious. It is the worth and value that God has placed on the inside of you. Your price is far above rubies and continuing to gain the wisdom of God will only add to the greatness Christ has already placed inside of you.

That leads us to our Throwback Theology Song of the Week. This is from the duo Washington Projects. This is from their 2007 project entitled “Commanders of the Resistance”. The featured track is entitled “Diamonds”. A banger to celebrate the ladies. Tune into the latest episode of the Trackstarz Radio show to hear DJ Jeremaya play this for the Throwback Theology Song of the Day. Until next time…

Peace and blessings,
