Thi’sl-Against All Odds |Album Review| (@thisl @trackstarz)

Thi’sl, St. Louis rapper, CHH veteran and now published author brings us his 6th studio album Against All Odds. Since 2007, Thi’sl has presented his life through a transparent lens and does not hold back once again on this new project. The album is centered around a time in Thi’sl life where he was about to be sent to prison on accounts of murder and much more, even though he was innocent of murder. Throughout the entire project you can hear snippets of the event that took place that got him in front of the judge and the speakings in the courtroom itself. The sound clips not only help you visualize what is going on in the story but also help give an indication of what the next song is going to be about. This really adds a nice cinematic feel to the project.

Getting into the actual production of the album, this is by far Thi’sl’s best project in his catalog of music. There is a heavy trap influence throughout but it’s strung together in a way that even if you’re not a fan of trap sound, this will still be a highly enjoyable album for you to listen too. Being in the music industry for so many years and having great success at it, Thi’sl has grown into his own unique style of vocal performance. To put it simple, he has a gritty tone in his voice that he KNOWS how to use. His speech patters are very clear on this album and for being a trap album, that is a great accomplishment. Most rappers who go with this type of sound get too caught up in the production or get too involved in the bass of their own voices that you can barely understand their words. Thi’sl has been able to balance that trap sound, aggressive tone and vulnerable story telling all into one with this new LP.
