“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”

Matthew 6:33 NLT

I have to say we definitely live in a day and time with lots of distractions. The internet and social media give us 24 hour access to information like we never had before. You’re in church, or at a wedding or at work and a world of information is at your fingertips. You get a notification to update you on anything that’s going on anywhere in the world. Literally, anything from a sale at your favorite store, the score of sporting event or even a tweet from the POTUS. It’s all right there in your pocket.

While that can be a great benefit to be able to access so much information it can also put you at a disadvantage at times. You can find yourself not able to keep your train of thought. Even worse, you find yourself not even able to pray to the creator of the universe. Our mind gets caught up into bunch of different things and we become so stimulation oriented that we can’t settle down and have a still moment. It’s good every once in awhile to have some time of just peace and quiet, with your phone off and disconnected from the world.

I don’t need to know what the President tweeted, I don’t need to know the score of the game, or what my friends have posted on social media. Just time alone to clear my mind and talk to God. The Bible says, “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” Isaiah 26:3 The Holy Spirit is a comforter. He gives us peace in the midst of our trials. When put our focus on Him He grants us peace. We don’t have to search for some external stimulation to find what God so graciously gives us in our relationship with Him.

This world constantly puts us in a rat race of chasing after things to try and make us happy. Those things only lead to more contention on the inside. We constantly try to keep up with Jones’ and never find true contentment on the inside. Christ Jesus has given us all that we need and put it down on the inside of us by His Holy Spirit living in us. In Him we live, move and have our being (Acts 17:28). We have to block out distractions, focus on the King of our souls, grow closer to Him and move further in the will of God. Focus.

That leads us to our Throwback Song of the Week. It comes from a rapper out of Philly named Young Josh. This is from his 2008 release entitled “Back To Reality.” The featured track is called “Focus.” Tune into the Trackstarz radio show this Saturday to hear DJ Jeremaya spin this for the Throwback Song of the Day. Until next time…

Peace and blessings,

Damo
