“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”
Hebrews 12:1-2 NLT
We are in the middle of Women’s History Month. Celebrating the lives of women from all over the worlds who have impacted the world for the good of mankind. A person I’d like to highlight is Wilma Rudolph.
Rudolph won 3 Olympic gold medals in the 1960 Olympics held in Rome, Italy. She won for the 100 meter, 200 meter and 4 x 100 meter relays. During this time she made some very profound statements about what propelled her to greatness.
One statement is, “I always had bad starts. The farther I ran the faster I became.” It speaks to her resolve to never give up. This is should be our mantra for life. If you keep going you’ll get farther. It reminds me of a quote from the movie “Captain Marvel” that says, “Higher, further, faster baby!”
It’s the resolve inside of us to never quit that will keep us going when times get hard. By no means am I dismissing our dependence on God and His Holy Spirit living on the inside of us. No, this is an upgrade on the human will.
The will of man is strong, but when upgraded with the power of God’s Spirit it is truly unstoppable. The power of the Almighty working in you and through you to lead you back to victory.
This isn’t for a temporary crown that can rust or fade away. This is an eternal crown given to us by the finished work of Christ on the cross. Then we were raised with him when He resurrected when Christ raised from the dead. Notice I said to lead us back to victory. Because we don’t fight for victory but we fight from the place of victory.
That’s why we can look to these words from Wilma Rudolph and hear our faith in God ring out. If we keep going God will strengthen us to get to the end.
That leads us to our Throwback Theology Song of the Week. We’re going back to ‘03 to the legendary Tunnel Rats to the ladies of the crew – Elsie & Zane. The track is from the self titled album “Tunnel Rats”. The featured track is called “Her Story”. Tune into the Trackstarz show this week to hear DJ Jeremaya play this for the Throwback Theology Song of the Day. Until next time…
Peace and blessings,
