Deepspace 5 – “Body Double”| Throwback Theology| @deepspace5 @damo_seayn3d @trackstarz

I was sitting back one day contemplating some things. One thing I realized is that it really is the simple things in life that bring us the most pleasure. As much as we may want riches, fame and material things it’s really some of the basic things that money doesn’t buy that really bring contentment. The relationships we have with our loved ones, the innocence in a child’s eyes, that favorite song that tugs on our heart no matter how many times we hear it or that favorite movie that we know every line to. Each time we watch it we get excited like it was the first time. It gives us the kind of joy that just turns us into a kid again.

Now let’s apply concept to music. In the age of mumble rappers I’ve come to appreciate even more the importance of quality music. Nothing like a dope verse where you can actually UNDERSTAND ALL OF THE WORDS!!! Bruh! It’s sad that I can say something like that about hip hop and literally I’m talking about cats mumbling on tracks.

I remember back in the day the older folks complained about not being able to understand hip hop. It was basically that they were so used to “their music” rap was just too fast for them. It wasn’t that guys weren’t clearly speaking. It was just too quick for them to catch on to.

That leads me to the throwback for this week. Now I’ve done an article on this group before, but as I thought about this topic this was the first song that came to mind. The song is by Deepspace 5 and is called “Body Double”. I used this song, because the song is basically addressing that topic about lyrics, rappers not being original and not bringing quality music. The way they go about it I really find interesting. Each member raps the same verse only changing a few lines each time. They do this to poke fun at rappers copying each other and not bringing quality lyrics to the mic.

Basically saying that because you all are just copying each other we’re just going to spit the same verse over and over and it’s still better than the music you’re putting out.  Funny, but the song is dope.  The song “Body Double” is from their 2010 release “The Future Ain’t What It Used To Be”.  This is just a snippet of the song.  Check it out and let us know what you think.  Until next time….

Peace and blessings
