“Brothers and sisters, join in imitating me, and observe those who live according to the example you have in us. For many live as enemies of the cross of Christ; I have often told you of them, and now I tell you even with tears. Their end is destruction; their god is the belly; and their glory is in their shame; their minds are set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will transform the body of our humiliation that it may be conformed to the body of his glory, by the power that also enables him to make all things subject to himself.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3:17-21‬ ‭NRSV‬‬

Typically, when people think of church one of the first things they think about is not God, but their appearance. They worry about how people think they will look and being judged for their appearance. No matter what their background is. They don’t want anyone to look down on them or they already come feeling like they’re not worthy. That really has more to do with your connection to God and not what man thinks.

All of us are born in sin and shaped in iniquity. All have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. No matter who you are or where you come from you fall short. Some religious legalistic people put the focus on what you wear as a sign of being right with God. God has something to say about what we wear, but it is not the determining factor of our salvation. Our salvation is determined by our acceptance of the finished work of Jesus Christ dying for our sins and being raised again from the dead.

Is it appropriate to come to church in some tight revealing outfit like you just Came from the club? No, but if that’s all you have then come as you are. God doesn’t want your wardrobe right before you can receive salvation. God wants your heart to be right above anything else. There is no point to be dressed in the best clothes and dead on the inside.

Whether you come to church dressed like Michelle Obama, or in a tailor made suit or in a snap back, t shirt, jeans and fresh pair of J’s. As long as you are alive on the inside and have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ then you are truly fashioned after God on the inside.
