“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)”

Hebrews 10:23 KJV

Without saying it your job requires a lot from you. They ask for a majority of your time, a lot of effort, your ideas and for you to be efficient at what you do. You can’t just wing it every day. Maybe you got put in a position that you didn’t qualify for and had to wing it at first, but your employer doesn’t want you to stay there. It is an expectation that you will eventually get better. You will gain more knowledge about what the job entails, become better at it and grow in that spot. Do not get to year 20 and still have the same amount of knowledge and skill base as you did on day 1. That would be a waste of time.

Some jobs either provide you with training classes or materials to help you learn more about your position. If not, they may just pair you with someone who has been there for a long time to help show you the ropes. Even if you’re filling a spot you don’t necessarily qualify for leadership saw something in you that they felt was perfect for that spot. You may not have all of the certifications, but you have some qualities in you that make you right for the spot. Anyone can learn the book knowledge, but you have internal qualities that fit this position and the things you have to deal with. Nobody can be you like you and that is what this really requires.

Our walk with Christ is like our natural jobs. There are some qualifications that we see others have and we feel like we don’t fit, because we think we lack what we see in others. It’s not that we lack anything. It’s really simply that God made each of us different and we need to walk in that uniqueness that He gave to each of us. It is our profession. The word profession can mean what I do for a career. I’m a barber, a plumber, secretary or a nurse. Profession also can mean a declaration. When used in scripture is referring to our declaration of our faith in Christ.

I am using both definitions in reference to our walk with God. When we first accepted Christ we made a public declaration of our faith in God. Now it is our job to walk out what that means. See, this Christian walk is something that if it is going to be effective it has to be taken seriously. You can’t part-time it. You have to be all in. Your job when they bring you on they want you all in. Your gifts, talents, time, effort and attention all given to the cause of the company you work for. Not only that, your job also has some things to say about your behavior that effects the company. They want you to carry yourself in a way that doesn’t cause the organization to be looked down on. Christ wants you to live in a manner that lifts Him up and does not bring shame to His name. Walk and live in a manner that lifts the savior up. Be professional.
