Memorable Confessions| Blog| @coachdpolite @trackstarz

The last two weeks we have been speaking on Romans 10:9-10 and the role of confession in the life of a believer.  As mentioned in the first post, this confession that we are speaking of is not the confessing of sin, but confessing the Lord JESUS. Today, I want us to look at some memorable confessions of JESUS in the scriptures.

Ethiopian Eunuch
Acts 8:36-37 (NKJV)
36 Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?”
37 Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”

Martha
John 11:24-27 (NKJV)
24 Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
27 She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”

Nathanael
John 1:49 (NKJV)
49 Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”

Peter
Matthew 16:13-16 (NKJV)
13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

There is one thing these scenes all have in common: all profess JESUS as the SON OF GOD. This is key. You will find many today who may confess JESUS, but what are they confessing HIM as? Some confess HIM as a good moral teacher. Some confess that HE was a good person. We have many non-biblical accounts that JESUS was a real person. And, those people have it right—JESUS was a real person, a good person, and a good moral teacher, but it cannot stop there.

Yes, if you intend to grab hold of this great salvation, your confession must go past all of those things and straight to the heart of the matter. Do you really believe that JESUS is the son of GOD? Yes, that is the good confession! Even other religions reference JESUS as a good person or good teacher. A particular religion will claim the aforementioned but makes sure to say that JESUS was not the SON OF GOD. There are even certain groups that claim to be Christian but deny that JESUS is the SON OF GOD.

The confessions above seem to indicate that believers confessed JESUS to be the SON of the LIVING GOD. This confession means something.

Grace and peace.
